"It was always at the back of our minds that we would love to go on holidays there, but it was a very remote dream," Nene said. Nene grew up in the United Kingdom in south east Wales, and says after meeting her husband at the age of 18 they romanticized about the thought of one day moving to Australia. ![]() "My lovely family said 'okay' probably thinking 'that will last until the end of the day', but here we are, I am 55 and I am still Nene." "But when I was about four, I told my family that it wasn't Linda it was Nene. Nene starts her story by emplaining: "My real life name is Linda." Having been forced to ask herself the same question, Nene Davies decided to put her pen to paper and write a novel loosely based on her own life. ![]() ![]() With her divorced parents at each other’s throats and using her as a pawn, no amount of mental reediting will give her the love she’s starving for.įorced to spend every other weekend in the same apartment building, the boy who thinks forgiveness makes him weak and the girl who thinks love is for fools begin an unlikely friendship. ![]() As an aspiring director, she should know, because she’s been reimagining her life as a film ever since she was a kid. This premise becomes increasingly absurd, part of the levity that balances the book’s gravity, as Léger throws herself into her subject. Early in the book, convinced that she must know more, rather than less, in order to keep the entry brief, Léger embarks on an ambitious regimen of research. The genesis of “Suite for Barbara Loden” was a request that Léger received to write a brief entry on “Wanda” for a film encyclopedia. The film is “ Wanda,” the director is Barbara Loden, and the author is Nathalie Léger, the French writer and curator, whose book “ Suite for Barbara Loden,” translated by Natasha Lehrer and Cécile Menon, has all the ingenuity of the mechanism inside a camera that allows a mirror to fold away so that light may pass through a focussed lens. ![]() Watching this film, a generation after it was made, another woman writes a book about the director of the film and the woman she plays, in whom the author recognizes both her mother and herself. The sci fi elements were not the greatest here. It sets up the possibility for different types of alien actions of the heroes in further books. If I could talk to Evangeline Anderson I would tell her to get rid of the 'Wordy' sections & give the frightening sections the same intensity as the sex. ![]() I am trying to say this without giving anything away about the story. It was tense and it was an creepy and interesting story. It is something that I could easily see to be a movie someday. The story was clear and flowed naturally. It was a psychology mind bender that kept me guessing and I didn't anticipate where it was going to go. I must say that I highly enjoyed this story. It was creepy and twisted and had a element of a demented family. I will recommend not doing that if you plan on sleeping or not having awful dreams. I made the mistake of reading this story after getting off of work at 2 a.m. This was a way to start a horror anthology. With some of my charm and wit, I was able to secure a copy and here is my review. I mean I seriously begged and prayed and begged a little more. I was given a early copy of this anthology basically because I begged for it. ![]() |
